The opening
Pune’s Metro Line 3, known as the Pink Line, was inaugurated on 3 November. It runs between the Maan–Hinjawadi area and Shivajinagar, connecting a major employment hub with central Pune. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority describes the project as a response to travel demand around the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park.
What it means for commuters
The corridor gives commuters a rail option along a trip many previously made by road. The Indian Express reported that six stations would initially remain closed. Whether the line helps on a particular journey depends on the stations in service, the connection at either end, and how easily passengers can transfer.
What to watch next
The inauguration marks the start of service on the corridor. The next milestones are the opening of the remaining stations, uptake by riders and how the line works with other parts of Pune’s transport network. The opening itself does not establish how much road congestion will change.
